Slippery Rock University Student Housing
In 2005 Slippery Rock University embarked on an aggressive new student housing project on the eastern portion of their campus. Westmoreland Electric’s scope of work included extending the existing campus 15 KV distribution electrical system and extending site telecommunications systems for telephone, CATV and computers.
Our interior work consisted of providing a 120/208 volt 4000 amp electrical distribution system, installing a 75 KVA outdoor emergency generator, building lighting (normal and emergency), power outlets, data and TV outlets, fire alarm, card access and CCTV security systems and mechanical equipment hookups for each building. The project started with Phase 1 which consisted of the first four buildings and completed 2 years later with another two buildings being constructed in Phase 2. This first phase of housing included nearly 500,000 square feet of housing for approximately 1500 students, replaced three existing antiquated dormitories on the site and we completed the 24 month project in 18 months.
This project was nominated for and won an Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Pennsylvania.
